When he was a child, Justin Dorset’s parents were avid collectors who often dragged him into antiques shops. Although he resented it at the time, those excursions must have made an indelible impression on him. Today, he loves nothing more than sourcing unusual, and in some cases, forgotten treasures. Quality, history and craftsmanship are always top of mind.
At first, antiquing was just a hobby for Dorset, who spent 17 years working in the music industry. But in 2010, the purchase of a set of 6 Eames chairs, inspired him to turn his passion into a career. He launched Dorset Finds out of his Brooklyn, New York, apartment shortly thereafter, using his finely tuned eye to uncover soulful designs from another time, give them a respectful restoration, and sell them to collectors, designers, businesses, and everyday people who love his aesthetic which falls somewhere at the intersection of Industrial and Victorian.
Today, Dorset operates Dorset Finds out of a Berkeley, California, workshop/showroom that’s open to the public by appointment and on Saturdays from 12pm - 5pm.
